Our diet is base on raw beef. Which is great for bulking up dogs. I call it
a Rotation diet, because we rotate between raw & dry kibble. We also rotate between beef & Chicken. Dry
kibble only accounts for about 10% of our diet.
One of the other reasons we prefer raw over
kibble is because a great deal of protein from commercial foods are nondigestible
protein. A large portion of these companies use protein from corn, soy and/or wheat which lack the proper muscle
to fat, body composition ratio and with the energy source imbalance may lead to significant weight gain. That's why
so many dogs are over weight and gain weight on cheap food vs. better foods. It's kind of like you eating junk food.
You just can't feed one type of meat and think it a good raw diet. If
you do that your dogs calcium to phosphorus ratios well be off greatly. You must feed "raw meaty bones", muscle meat,
and organ meat. You can add eggs, cottage cheese, & vegetables.
You feed 2 - 4 % of your dogs body weight. It all depends on the dogs age, breed, size,
work load, metabolism, etc.
Use a variety of foods, this offer more nutrients.
Organ meat makes up about 10% of our diet. It's a great source of nutrients, but too much can be too rich for
a dog.
We use Chicken backs, necks and leg quarters,
Canned fish with bones, Jack Mackerel, Pink Salmon, Sardines.
Our Muscle meat includes, beef heart, chicken heart & green tripe.
Our Organ meat includes chicken/beef kidney and liver. This is our base diet. We may use
other meats from time to time.
As far as kibble
goes we like to rotate on that is well. Our rule is to try and stay away from foods that have corn, wheat, soy, by-products,
artificial colors, flavors and preservatives.
But
we prefer foods made via "NATURA" . They produce Innova, Evo, California Natural, Health Wise, Karma. I love them
all, Health Wise is my favorite for pups and Evo is my favorite for adult dogs.
